Process

This project was a multi layered task for me as a Designer. To start, I had to create photographs of different cars and use them to tell a story. This involved me digging through 100s of picture that I had taken over the course of a year to see what images paired best visually and thematically. Next, I had to figure what information I was trying to convey, and create a design language surrounding that.

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate closely with RPM Automotive's team to gain insights into their vision, ensuring alignment with the brand's identity. Indentify and communicate with key stakeholders to understand their expectations and preferences for the quarterly zine and website. What do they want to see, how do they want to see it, etc.

User Research

Conduct extensive research to understand the preferences and interests of different automotive enthusiast segments, including both newcomers and seasoned professionals. Develop user personas to guide the content creation process. Do people that like to read about Porsches also like to read bout motorcycles? Do they prefer other performance automotive brands?

Conceptualization

Brainstorm and ideate content ideas for the quarterly zine and website, ensuring a diverse range of topics to cater to various audience segments. Developed a cohesive concept that captures the essence of RPM Automotive's brand and resonates with its audience. Focused on creating a visual story to pair along with the copy.

Prototyping

Create prototypes for the zine layout and website design to visualize the content structure and overall user experience. Gather feedback from stakeholders to refine the design and ensure it aligns with the envisioned brand image. Here I spent a lot of time figuring out what format would be best for the zine. If it should be smaller and more personal, or larger to let the imagery speak for itself.

Technology Integration

Explore and implement relevant technologies for the digital platform, enhancing the  experience for users. After getting most of the content out for the Zine, I decided it would be best, especially for our younger audience, to digitize the experience. This allows potential stakeholders to consume the information in anyway they prefer.

Visual and Editorial Design

Craft visually appealing layouts for the zine, considering both print and digital formats. Develop a consistent design language for the website, incorporating elements that reflect the automotive pop culture theme. Collaborate with editorial teams for engaging and informative content creation.

Outcome

The culmination of RPM Automotive's strategic initiatives has yielded a dynamic and comprehensive automotive pop culture brand that resonates across diverse enthusiast segments. Through the creation of a quarterly zine and a complementary website, RPM Automotive has successfully established a multifaceted platform that caters to the interests of both the emerging young enthusiast and seasoned industry professionals.

The quarterly zine serves as a tangible, in-depth source of content, while the website extends the brand's reach to a broader online audience. This approach not only ensures a meaningful and immersive experience for readers but also allows RPM Automotive to engage with the automotive community on various levels.

The brand's commitment to providing in-depth content covering a wide range of topics reflects its dedication to fostering a vibrant and inclusive automotive culture. RPM Automotive's innovative blend of traditional and digital mediums positions it as a noteworthy player in the automotive pop culture landscape, connecting enthusiasts of all backgrounds and experiences.
